DALLAS - Dallas firefighters battled a blaze at the original Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse on Inwood Road late Tuesday night.

The 1-alarm fire started some time before 11 p.m. Paramedics and another Dallas Fire-Rescue crew driving past the restaurant saw smoke and called dispatch; the first crew arrived to find the back of the restaurant fully engulfed in flames.

The smoker is at the back of the restaurant, but investigators have not yet determined a cause of the fire. Arson has not been ruled out, either.

The restaurant will be closed for at least a couple of weeks, said company CEO Walker Harmon.

The original Sonny Bryan's location opened in 1958 and is a centerpiece of the medical center area. It's located across from the UT Southwestern Medical Center, and often has a line of diners outside its doors starting around 11:30 a.m. for the lunchtime rush.

Customers love the signed photos of celebrites and the old wooden school desks inside. It appears none of those items were damaged by the fire.
