MESQUITE, Texas – Hundreds of onlookers slowed down on I-635 to watch the Chili’s restaurant burning near Town East Mall in Mesquite during Tuesday’s morning rush hour.
The restaurant was first reported on fire about 4:30 a.m., but flames were still shooting out of the roof by 7:45 a.m. as firefighters used ladder trucks to shoot water onto structure.
No one was inside the restaurant when the blaze began, so Mesquite Fire Department called only two alarms on the fire. No injuries have been reported.
Traffic on northbound LBJ Freeway (I-635) slowed considerably as motorists watched the fire and smoke rise into the morning sky.
There’s no word on a possible cause of the fire. Stay with FOX 4 News and myfoxdfw.com for further updates on this story.
