Pan-Asian Restaurant Oishii Reopened After Fire

Sushi restaurant Oishii has been closed since a fire in late December 2012 gutted the building. The Dallas Fire-Rescue Department ruled the fire accidental, likely caused by an electrical short in the ceiling.

Hungry diners, wait no more: As owner Thanh Nguyen promised, Oishii reopened this month — and today, in fact, is the official first day, though a phone call to the restaurant revealed they’ve been open softly since Friday. The wait was nearly an hour by 7 p.m. Friday.

A press release says the lunch and dinner menus will be the same as before, including chef’s specials like peking duck and coconut seabass and half-off wine Wednesdays. A story on Eater notes that dollar sushi night on Tuesdays has been nixed, however.

Oishii is located in the Oak Lawn neighborhood of Dallas on Wycliff Avenue. It’s open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday, and dinner only on Sunday.

“I’m just relieved that Nguyen will back,” wrote Kim Pierce on the Eats blog in August, “as Oishii was such a sweet success story. Nguyen enjoyed an excellent reputation as a sushi chef at Steel before setting out on his own on a shoestring. He gradually built the place up over the years, and it became a pan-Asian neighborhood favorite.”
